BuildCraft 7.0.18 Stable, 7.1.0 Beta, Compat 7.0.10

EDIT: As is tradition, I released a hotfix of BC 7.0.18 - that is BC 7.0.19. Fixes quarries not connecting to the front. 7.1.0 will get a fix later.

Three releases! Bugfixes! Features! Batman! ...Okay, maybe not that last one.

First, BuildCraft 7.0.18, with some tiny improvements and major bugfixes. Second, BuildCraftCompat 7.0.10, with AquaTweaks support and the MFR fix you've all been waiting for. Third, and most importantly, the first beta of BuildCraft 7.1.0! The beta works with 7.0.x Compat (for now) and is reasonably stable - the beta status is primarily due to potential for feature breaking and general incompleteness.

You can download everything here! Yes, even the old versions. Though I'm not sure why you'd want to.

BuildCraft 7.0.21 Stable, 7.1.2 Beta

I'm sorry that there hasn't been an update to BuildCraft for a while. Users closer to the modding community probably know why and the rest of you don't need to worry about it, I'll just re-iterate one thing: BuildCraft is (mostly) safe. Don't worry, keep playing the mod. The updates might slow down for a little while, though.

Since the 7.1 Beta won't be coming out to stability any time soon, I have backported the less intrusive changes from it to BuildCraft 7.0 for you to enjoy. On top of that, I have done some serious energy system changes in BC 7.1.2 Beta - check them out! Of course, there's some bugfixes for everyone, as usual.

Grab everything here!

PS. The 7.1.2 Beta is mostly stable, it has undergone a lot of testing - however, I am keeping it a beta as its future shape and direction is currently highly uncertain. If you like to live on the bleeding edge, however - go ahead! It shouldn't break your world too much.

Changelog:

BuildCraft 7.0.21 Stable

Backported from 7.1:

  • Blueprint Library GUI improvements (asie)
  • Clay fluid pipe (asie)
  • Fluid pipe capacity scaling with fluidMultiplier (asie)

I have decided to put a day aside on fixing the ridiculous amount of bugs on the issue tracker, and got them down from about 105 to 81. (Also, the tracker had its 3000 GET by none other than Chemdork himself! \o/)

Download it here. A 7.1.x bugfix release won't come for a while.

BuildCraft 7.0.23 Stable, Compat 7.0.12

New version of BuildCraft and Compat today! In BC, we have backported some of 7.1's subtler fixes and its new Delivery Robot system - go check it out, as well as fixed some very long-standing issues with composite blueprints and filler behaviour. In Compat, EnderStorage builder support and compatibility with Pam's HarvestCraft's right-click crop harvesting. Fun!

I have also removed BuildCraft 7.1.x from the downloads - it likely will not survive in its current form, and I urge you not to use it for new servers. For existing servers, there will be a semi-clean upgrade path from the 7.1.x betas to a future BuildCraft release around the time we backport the improved Lists. Sorry for the trouble. (We're also going to backport the improved Pipe Wire logic very soon, but it needs further testing.)

Download the new 7.0.x releases here.

EDIT: 7.1.5 Stable is out now too! Apparently, I broke a reasonable chunk of Quarry/Builder code in 7.1.1 and never noticed. This also gave me a chance to add additional optimizations, however.

BuildCraft 7.1.8 Stable

$

Okay. First off, I'd like to really, really, really apologize for the spam of BuildCraft updates in the past week. Since we recently lost our testing team, it has become much harder to properly proof-check new features prior to release. I am working on building a new testing setup, however. This release has been triggered specifically by a major bug in the oil biome configuration, which stopped a lot of packs from updating.

Anyway, with that off the way, more bugfixes! Yay! Grab them here!

Also, there has recently been work underway to create an unofficial port of BuildCraft to Minecraft 1.8. While the official BuildCraft releases are currently staying on 1.7.10, you can see the efforts here.

Changelog:

Improvements:

  • Improvements to /buildcraft command (asie)
  • New robot board texture (asie)

Bugs fixed:

  • [#3050] Oil biome configs not changing from defaults (asie)

Again, a few bugfixes - but it involves a major robot regression which makes them into space. I can't believe I was able to make anything into space. BuildCraftCompat 7.1.2 is a bit more interesting, though, as it adds a WAILA tweak for iron kinesis pipes, as well as improved MineTweaker support! Get both from here.

By the way, here is a list of BuildCraft's MineTweaker 3 functions.

Carrying the BuildCraft Torch

It's been a fun thirteen months. Back in mid-October of last year, SpaceToad passed on the BuildCraft project leadership to me, a person hardly ever involved in BuildCraft's development process. The move surprised many, myself included, however it was a rather interesting journey and a great learning experience.

When I had joined the team - or, rather, picked up the ashes of what was once the team, BuildCraft was all but abandoned by many, modders and players alike. It was largely considered a buggy, outdated, unreliable mod and - in general - a bad choice, with numerous "superior" alternatives springing up across the modding community. The first thing I had done - the move to Redstone Flux - was a necessity and a slight sacrifice, causing a fair amount of controversy when it was first introduced. Many thought that this is yet another attempt at stirring drama in the community. However, it paid off and let the mod survive in a changing ecosystem. I spent long hours trying to fix bugs, not having any idea what the future will bring but knowing that it is now my responsibility as a developer, fan of the mod and the new maintainer to try and save it from extinction. The next months brought many unexpected events: hea3ven turning the robots from a buggy gimmick to a versatile tool, CyanideX giving us a whole new, unified graphical design, bringing many long-missing features such as the Insertion Pipes and Gate Copier to vanilla BC, as well as new things like the Lenses and Filters or BuildCraftCompat; modpacks, streamers and LPers rediscovering the mod and finding out it has indeed grown up a lot from its Tekkit days.

It is an amazing feeling to see a nearly abandoned mod rise from the ashes. I really enjoyed hearing all the positive input coming from the BuildCraft community, as well as the constructive criticism I had often received. However, it has to be said that over time my dedication to the mod started dying down. The design flaws I had seen required radical reforms, the kind of which just should not be applied to one of the mods with the longest legacy still on the modding scene. I believe the fundamentals of BuildCraft should stay unchanged, and a new mod would be fit better to try and carry the vision forward. In addition, bugs kept piling up and real life also took its own share of my time. Eventually, I found myself unable to work on it as well as I used to.

Looking at packs like Regrowth, Beyond Reality: Divergence or Tekkit Legends, Let's Players like BevoLJ, chilm, chemdork123 and even Direwolf20, the community we've built and rebuilt around the mod, as well as the countless BuildCraft builds and discussions I've witnessed in the past year, I believe I have largely succeeded in my mission to rebuild BuildCraft. However, I also think it would be wise to step down instead of clinging to the mod and move on to different projects closer to my own visions while letting someone more passionate about it - like I once used to be - carry the torch onwards.

Now, this does not mean BuildCraft is dead - I still believe it has an important role in a lot of modern modpacks, as well as being a mod with unique features and design decisions. I do want to keep the philosophy behind BuildCraft alive and will try to do so in my future modding projects. I will probably keep doing bugfixes for the time being, as I have done for the last month or two. There is also the prospect of AlexIIL's 1.8/1.9 port becoming the new official version. Please also remember that pull requests are a thing. All I want to do is let you know my current thoughts, that is that I no longer consider myself fit to carry the BuildCraft torch. I'm sorry for any trouble this might cause

Thanks for all the memories and lessons, BuildCrafters. Thanks to everyone who had ever contributed to the project. May your quarry keep mining ever after.
