BuildCraft 6.4.16 Stable, 7.0.5 RC; Compat 7.0.3 RC

Time to bump BuildCraft 7 to an "RC" state: that is, we think it's stable, but we can't be sure. We're also updating BC 6 to 6.4.16 with another few tiny fixes. I personally encourage packs to start adopting BC 7; however, keep in mind that Forestry will need a TBA update and Logistics Pipes will remain incompatible for quite some time.

Grab them here, as usual.

In other news, I'm going to be taking a break from BuildCraft development and parts of the Internet in general. Don't worry, it's not your fault. I trust hea3ven to do anything he believes is necessary in BuildCraft development for now.

EDIT: If that hasn't been clarified enough: BuildCraft is safe. Not bringing too much attention to this because you as the end user shouldn't care. Just let me go and stay go.

After over four months, it's finally here! BuildCraft 7 Stable!

I'd like to express thanks to everyone involved in this release:

  • hea3ven, who helped me develop this release and made the robots absolutely amazing,
  • CyanideX, who suffered with me and my picky taste to provide the new, fresh look of BuildCraft,
  • marcin212, magik6000 and all the other Starchasers bugtesters who ran BC 7 throughout its entire development process (yes, way before the public builds!) and helped find a reasonably large amount of bugs,
  • the #buildcraft IRC and the BuildCraft forums for being there and enjoying the mod,
  • everyone who has ever submitted an issue or pull request or even as much as contacted me - every word has an influence.

BuildCraft 7 is a great BuildCraft release, bringing additions and improvements in almost every area of the mod. Here are some highlights:

  • Modularization is back, for those pack developers who need a smaller subset of our functionality.
  • A fresh, new look by CyanideX! (Excluding robots. Those have, sadly, been delayed - due to time issues - but will make it to a later Stable release.)
  • Optimizations to fillers, builders, pipes, robots and other parts of the mod.
  • Pipes: round robin sorting in diamond pipes, weighting in diamond fluid pipes, massive stripes pipes powers, improved pipe rendering and colors!
  • Recipes: more expensive lists, less expensive pipe plugs
  • Silicon: New Assembly Table and Integration Table, ACT replaced by a CraftPacket-inspired Packager+Stamper system
  • Factory: Tanks get comparators now!
  • Robotics: New Zone Planner, improved trigger/action logic, fancy robot animations.
  • Paintbrushes! For some reason.
  • Tons of other little improvements and additions that would take up too much space.

Now, BuildCraft 7.0.6 would not be complete without a stable Compat. Here's what that brings, compared to the 6.4.x Compat:

  • Harvesting support: AgriCraft (+ planting), AppleMilkTea2, Witchery
  • BluePower: bundled cable and pipe output support
  • Forestry: better Builder support (engines, certain machines, stairs)
  • NEI: Better Integration Table support
  • RailCraft: better Builder support (stairs, slabs, tracks, detectors)
  • WAILA: Robot tooltips!

EDIT: BuildCraftCompat 7.0.5 is out, fixing a crash with Forestry 3.5.

We've also released BC 6.4.17 for those packs which can't move to BC 7 yet, fixing a dupe bug with robots. Keep in mind, however, that BC 6.4.x will be deprecated by the end of June.

Also, Armourer's Workshop is adding BC 7 robot support! Fun.

Grab everything here, as usual, but read the following warnings first!

BuildCraft 7 has some changes you might want to watch out for:

  • Generally, your world and map will work fine and upgrade properly bar a few exceptions. However, downgrading is impossible.
  • If you have any custom config options, the config format and filename changed for both BC and Compat, so look into those.
  • The Quarry is now in the Builders module, as opposed to BC 3.x and below when it was in the Factory module.
  • Robots now only pull items and fluids out from wooden or emerald pipes.
  • Drop Items in Pipe has been combined with Accept Items.
  • The Crafter robot has been removed as it was deemed to be useless.
  • Flower harvesting from Robots has been removed due to bugs it caused.
  • Lava in the Combustion Engine doesn't burn (!?) anymore. Use the Stirling Engine.
  • The Advanced Crafting Table is deprecated, but not removed yet. You might want to upgrade your setups.
  • You can no longer put Lists inside Lists. Listception.

You also need to update certain mods: Forestry 3.5.7+, Computronics 1.5.2+ and BCA have new BC7 versions. As for Logistics Pipes, I have no idea. LP 0.9 seems to be ported already in the latest dev builds, not sure about the rest.

EDIT: You also need the latest versions of CCC/NEI for the Packages to render correctly.

Have fun! (Yes, modpacks: it's fine to upgrade to BC 7 now.)

EDIT: BuildCraft 7.0.8 is out (addon compatibility fix) and Compat 7.0.7 (Immibis' Microblocks race condition fix) too.

Apparently no stable release of BuildCraft can ever go without bugs. Thankfully, our users caught the most important ones rather quickly, allowing us to release a bugfix version today! In addition, Compat brings further improvements to Builder compatibility.

Apparently no stable release of BuildCraft can ever go without bugs. Period. Thankfully, thanks to our bug reporters, we have managed to find the sources of the stranger issues as well. Time for an update! We've also got quite a few improvements to both mods.

Two BC 7 releases in a single day! That is mainly due to a fatal bug with rotateLeft() we found in the optimized Builders. However, I have also added a few features which did not make the cut for 7.0.10.

Lots of bugfixes this time with BuildCraft 7.0.14, including one of our oldest issues - quarries ignoring certain blocks like glass, fences, etc.! You can download it here!

(Note: To fix the quarry block issues, we had to revert a performance improvement added in February 2013. This may mean slightly worse performance (not a lot), especially for large quarries. I have, however, figured out to optimize the quarry much further - this will be added in BuildCraft 7.1 due to potential instability.)

Oh, look, a new BuildCraft series! And by the developer, no less!

This is, in essence, trying to continue and extend SpaceToad's tradition of making a teaser/explanatory video once in a while showcasing new BuildCraft features. I plan to extend it to showcasing old but lesser-known BuildCraft features, too! This episode was a test, but it turned out so well I plan to make it a (semi-)weekly thing.

EDIT: As is tradition, I released a hotfix of BC 7.0.18 - that is BC 7.0.19. Fixes quarries not connecting to the front. 7.1.0 will get a fix later.

Three releases! Bugfixes! Features! Batman! ...Okay, maybe not that last one.

First, BuildCraft 7.0.18, with some tiny improvements and major bugfixes. Second, BuildCraftCompat 7.0.10, with AquaTweaks support and the MFR fix you've all been waiting for. Third, and most importantly, the first beta of BuildCraft 7.1.0! The beta works with 7.0.x Compat (for now) and is reasonably stable - the beta status is primarily due to potential for feature breaking and general incompleteness.

A new beta this time, bringing BC 7.1 up to date with the 7.0 fixes and adding some improvements of its own!

This one is quite stable in day-to-day use, I'm primarily releasing it as I will be focusing on some larger changes/additions now so there might not be another release for a while. Feel free to use! (Just don't complain if Logistics Pipes breaks. Yes, it will.)

I'm sorry that there hasn't been an update to BuildCraft for a while. Users closer to the modding community probably know why and the rest of you don't need to worry about it, I'll just re-iterate one thing: BuildCraft is (mostly) safe. Don't worry, keep playing the mod. The updates might slow down for a little while, though.

Since the 7.1 Beta won't be coming out to stability any time soon, I have backported the less intrusive changes from it to BuildCraft 7.0 for you to enjoy. On top of that, I have done some serious energy system changes in BC 7.1.2 Beta - check them out! Of course, there's some bugfixes for everyone, as usual.

PS. The 7.1.2 Beta is mostly stable, it has undergone a lot of testing - however, I am keeping it a beta as its future shape and direction is currently highly uncertain. If you like to live on the bleeding edge, however - go ahead! It shouldn't break your world too much.

I have decided to put a day aside on fixing the ridiculous amount of bugs on the issue tracker, and got them down from about 105 to 81. (Also, the tracker had its 3000 GET by none other than Chemdork himself! \o/)

New version of BuildCraft and Compat today! In BC, we have backported some of 7.1's subtler fixes and its new Delivery Robot system - go check it out, as well as fixed some very long-standing issues with composite blueprints and filler behaviour. In Compat, EnderStorage builder support and compatibility with Pam's HarvestCraft's right-click crop harvesting. Fun!

I have also removed BuildCraft 7.1.x from the downloads - it likely will not survive in its current form, and I urge you not to use it for new servers. For existing servers, there will be a semi-clean upgrade path from the 7.1.x betas to a future BuildCraft release around the time we backport the improved Lists. Sorry for the trouble. (We're also going to backport the improved Pipe Wire logic very soon, but it needs further testing.)
